In this article, we take a deeper dive into the Ahrefs AI content detector, identifying whether or not it can effectively detect AI-generated content.

Before we dive straight in, let’s take a second to explain what the Ahrefs AI detector is.
Ahrefs is a leading brand in SEO and content marketing. Its free AI detector is designed to help users identify AI-generated content, either for publishers or content creators.
When it comes to online content authenticity, consumers and publishers are looking for a tool that they can rely on. They want a detector they can trust, and given the incredible reputation that Ahrefs has in the content marketing industry, it’s easy to see why there is demand for this tool.
With all that in mind, we decided to put the Ahrefs tool to the test.
For our test, we wanted to look at multiple forms of content to see whether or not Ahrefs can actually detect AI content.
Step 1: We created three prompts in ChatGPT before inputting them back into the tool to get our test content, all of which is 100% AI generated and should therefore flag as such in each tool.
Step 2: We then pasted the outcome content into the Ahrefs tool and Originality.ai AI detector to test and compare results.
For the test, we will look at three types of content:
Prompt: "Write a blog post explaining why more people should play golf, highlighting the key benefits of the sport. Discuss how golf offers physical and mental health benefits, helps with social connections, and provides a chance to enjoy the outdoors. Emphasize its accessibility for all ages and fitness levels while also showcasing the skill-building and competitive elements that keep players engaged. Conclude with a call to action, encouraging readers to try golf as a way to improve both their well-being and leisure time."

Include a call to action, inviting them to book a lesson, schedule a tee time, or visit the golf course to experience the sport for themselves. In each case of this brief test, the Ahrefs AI Detector was unable to make the content ‘sound human,’ and it was detected as Likely AI with 100% confidence by the Originality.ai AI Checker.

The Ahrefs AI content detector is completely free to use. However, it only allows a few hundred words at a time, which makes it difficult to get accurate results.
